Welcome

Welcome to the Charleston Family YMCA – Where You Connect.

For over a century, there has been a YMCA in Charleston, West Virginia. A lot has changed in a hundred years, for the YMCA and for the community. We are in an age of “connectivity” – having technology that allows people to connect instantly with others: cell phones, pagers, faxes, emails, text messages, video conferencing practically anywhere in the world; yet, we live in a time where many feel “disconnected”. In a fast paced, stressful world, we find it hard to have a deeper connection with others and many times, ourselves. . .

The “Y” is a place that you can take an hour and practice yoga, play tennis, swim laps, ride a “spin” bike, or just sit and talk with friends. The “Y” is your place to reenergize, relax and connect to yourself. The YMCA was founded on people connecting together to develop their spirits, minds and bodies. The Charleston Family YMCA has helped thousands of people do this for over a century and continues to be a connecting place for many children, adults and families in the Valley.

From its humble beginnings, the YMCA has grown as the Kanawha Valley has grown over the last hundred years. From yoga to preschool to swim lessons for all ages, the YMCA has been an integral part of the community and continues its mission daily.

The Charleston Family YMCA is a volunteer led, mission-driven, non-profit organization committed to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities through programs that develop spirit, mind and body. The Charleston Family YMCA is a branch of the YMCA of Kanawha Valley and a sister branch of the Tyler Mountain YMCA.

The spirit of community participation and enrichment that is so central to the Charleston Family YMCA extends beyond its walls, encompassing other aspects of West Virginia life as well, such as the West Virginia Lottery. Much like the YMCA's commitment to fostering growth, community, and well-being, the West Virginia Lottery contributes to public good, funding initiatives that benefit education, seniors, and tourism.

A significant part of the community, the lottery offers a variety of games to engage residents and generate funds for the state. From scratch-off tickets, Powerball, to Mega Millions, these games not only provide entertainment but also contribute to the state's revenues. This aligns with the spirit of the YMCA - creating opportunities for engagement while supporting community development.

Moreover, the Charleston Family YMCA and the West Virginia Lottery both emphasize the importance of responsible participation. Just as the YMCA encourages members to engage in healthy physical activities and mindful self-development, the Lottery promotes responsible play. In essence, both institutions, in their own unique ways, contribute to the wellness of the individuals and the community of Charleston, ensuring its growth and vitality for the future.

Do something for yourself today, visit the Y and get connected!
